Welcome to Emaan’s Letters!

About me

“To me, graduate medicine recognises the doctors of tomorrow who arrive at medical school not through a childhood epiphany or lifelong devotion, but through a process of introspection and discovery.” The opening sentence of my personal statement captures the process through which arts graduates such as myself unconventionally found their calling to medicine and the courage to pursue it.

My dreams became true twice as I ventured from an aspiring lawyer, graduating with a First Class Honours in law from the London School of Economics (2018-2021), to an aspiring doctor, studying medicine at the University of Cambridge (2021-2026).

About this blog

The healthcare system and legal system are vastly viewed as two separate territories, but which system is responsible when housing, immigration, social and foreign policy come down with a vengeance on the body?

Both territories ‘proclaim’ the same values of justice, equality, and accessibility, and both have some of the most personal, transformative and destructive effects on humans’ everyday lives. As an aspiring doctor and lawyer, I wish to forge a more equitable healthcare and legal system, through contributing to the medico-legal field with my dual background.

This blog will capture the intersection between law and medicine, venturing into medical law & ethics, healthcare & human rights, and medicine & politics. I hope I can bridge two passions of mine and demonstrate that there is greater congruence than one would intuitively think.

Your subscription means the world, and I’m delighted to have you join me in my pursuit. Thank you!

Graduate Medicine Guide

I have produced a Graduate Medicine Guide for aspiring grad medics, talking you through the application process and specifically the GAMSAT. I hope it helps make the journey easier.
